Sodium ethyl xanthate is one of the sodium xanthate series products with weak collection power but the best selectivity. It is widely used for flotation of easily floatable sulfide ores and priority flotation of complex sulfide ores. It can also be used as a wet metallurgical precipitant and rubber vulcanization accelerator.

It can also be used in conjunction with sulfurizing agents for flotation of copper and lead oxide ores. It can also be used as a precipitation agent for wet metallurgy (such as purification of zinc electrolyte) and a rubber vulcanization accelerator.
